CLEAR WAX Faux Shop Clear Wax is a durable, easy-to-use system that will create depth, shine, and many different designs. The artist can create extraordinary effects from brushed metal to Raku porcelain. It will enhance any home or business by adding a touch of elegance. As gold and other metal accents were used in the past to denote wealth, a Faux Shop Clear Wax technique will also endow antique furnishings or any decor with added beauty and sophistication that the wealthy class of yesteryear so valued. Faux Shop Clear Wax is a water-based multiple effect decorative coating gel. It is water resistant without the smell of solvents. Faux Shop Clear Wax is more durable, thicker, and stronger than other similar products. It will not come off with repeated washings because it contains the same ingredients as many varnishes on the market today. This product is ideal for outside use. It cannot be used for underwater effects unless it is sealed with a waterproof topcoat The wax is made of 100% acrylic latex resin. It will remain flexible. If paint is weak in binders, adding the wax will increase the adhesion of the paint. Faux Shop Clear Wax is compatible with any other acrylic, acrylic latex, or latex products. Resin is the product that makes up varnishes and sealers. Once the wax has dried, sealing it with a varnish is not necessary unless it will receive unusually heavy abuse. On a floor, two coats of a quality varnish are recommended. Then, once a month, wash and wax the surface with a standard household cleaner such as Mop and Glow™ or Johnson Carefree Wax™. The wax may be used on new or old surfaces and is safe for residential or commercial decorative effects. On an old surface, any loose paint or film must be sanded, filled, and primed with an appropriate primer. On wood, metal, and concrete, the surface must be primed with a primer made specifically for that surface. To clean metal, wash the surface with vinegar and water, then rinse. Faux Shop Clear Wax may be tinted with universal tints or with any water-based paint. The wax is a gel that can be added to paint without decreasing its adhesion. It dries clear and can be added to paint without altering the paint color. As much wax as you wish may be added to paint without affecting its adhesion. The more wax added the morethe paint will become. Adding 10% purified water or less will maintain adhesion of this product. Adding more water will dilute the binder that makes this product adhere. Tap water, soiled tools, and recycled containers introduce bacteria into the product and may cause mold. Clean tools and containers with bleach or alcohol. Application can be with a trowel, spatula, brush, roller, plastic wrap, sponge, or any tool that will hold paint. Faux Shop Clear Wax can be used on furniture, walls, concrete, linoleum, wallpaper, pottery and any surface that will accept water-based paint. Drying time is from 20 minutes to four hours depending on the thickness of application. Curing time is from one day to five days depending on the humidity. Once the product is cured, it will not be affected by humidity or moisture. Clean up can be done with alcohol or water while the wax is wet. When the product is dry, it is permanent. It can be sanded using a heavy duty sander. Any quality primer can be painted over the cured product. Priming is necessary to cover dark colors or to even out coverage. Faux Shop Clear Wax, when applied according to directions, is guaranteed to perform as specified or the product will be replaced. This wax is a thick, durable, clear acrylic resin that can be mixed with acrylic paint for impasto painting. Since it is thick and durable with high amounts of binders, it can be use as a collage adhesive or for attaching small objects such as stones, twigs, jewelry, or three dimensional objects. It can be mixed with sand, crushed rock, glitter, or other materials to create textual effects. I have applied it to walls and scraped over it with a wallpaper brush, and it resembled the grain of grass cloth. When dry, it is extremely durable, water-resistant and suitable for exterior use. FORMULA: Mix three parts Faux Shop Clear Wax with one part thick, quality metallic paint. Formulas for using Universal tints instead of paints may vary depending on the depth of color desired. Coverage: 5 sq. ft. to 20 square feet per ounce approximately depending on use and sheen of the substrate. |
