MATTE VARNISHMatte Varnish is a durable, protective coating that leaves an eggshell sheen, therefore it has little or no reflection. Many old world designs, stone effects, murals, and some texture finishes require a protective coat but sheen would diminish the authenticity. This Matte Varnish is perfect for adding a protective finish. Applying the Matte Varnish with a brush or a roller specifically for varnish is easy. As in all varnishes, be careful not to overwork the product as cloudiness may result. Be sure to apply the varnish to a clean, dry, cured surface with proper preparation and humidity must be less than 40%. Use and store between 65 & 85 F. Pigment or tint can also be added to give a soft wash to a finish or to soften a color that may be too intense. Matte Varnish can be used over paint or other sealers to cut the sheen. A man from Newport Beach, California had an artist faux finish a wall. The shine was too reflective so she told him to call me. I advised him to have his artist apply a coat of Matte Varnish over his shiny faux finish to cut the sheen. It worked! Dry time is four to eight hours depending on humidity. Use on exterior or interior surfaces. Coverage: 2400 - 400 sq. ft. per gallon depending upon surface porosity.
HARD VARNISHHard Varnish is a ultra durable, protective coating that leaves a gloss sheen. It can be used for interiors and exteriors. This Hard Varnish is excellent for application on canvas, paper, wood, plaster, masonry, concrete or most non-oily surfaces. If you have a painted surface that will receive much abuse, the Hard Varnish is the right varnish to protect that surface. Apply the Hard Varnish in thin, quick strokes with a soft brush or a roller specifically for varnish. As with all varnishes, be careful not to overwork the product as cloudiness may result. Also, do not brush after the film has begun to dry. Be sure to apply the varnish to a clean, dry, cured surface with proper preparation and humidity less than 40%. Use and store between 65 & 85 F. Pigment or tint can also be added to give a soft wash to a finish or to soften a color that may be too intense. Faux Shop Extender may be added to extend drying time and minimize the brush marks. If reflection is a problem, use our Matte Varnish as the last coat. It will tone down the shine. I received a call from a man who hired an artist to do a faux finish on the outside of his building. He was generally happy with the finish but it was too shiny and too reflective. The artist did not know how to tone down the sheen and she asked him to call me for advice. She was new to the business but knew her finish had to protected. I advised him to have his artist apply a coat of a Matte Varnish over his faux finish. It cut the shine and everyone was happy. Coverage: 400 - 500 sq. ft. per gallon depending upon surface porosity.
MICA FLAKE VARNISHMica Flake Varnish is a satin level sheen protective varnish with silver mica flakes. When the Mica Flake Varnish is used on a granite faux finish, it resembles the type of granite that contains silver particles. It should be applied with a brush specifically made for varnishes and stirred frequently. It is recommended you apply the Mica Flake Varnish as a first coast, followed by additional coats of standard varnish. It has a slight texture to it so each layer applied over the Mica Flake Varnish will smooth the surface. It can be used on exterior and interior surfaces. Coverage: 75 - 125 square feet per quart depending of absorbency of the substrate.
